Equity Associates provides educational consulting services to promote the development of school-based mental health programs that are comprehensive and trauma-informed. We believe that mental health as an integrated part of a student’s education is key to breaking down stigmas and improving access to care.
Comprehensive school-based mental health and trauma informed care systems are critical for the success of all students at your school.
As educators, principals and school counselors, we know that your top priority is ensuring that your students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the future. However, we also know that academic success is just one piece of the puzzle. That’s why we believe comprehensive school-based mental health and trauma informed care systems are critical for the success of all students at your school.
The reality is that mental health concerns impact countless students every day. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health issues, these challenges can affect a student’s ability to learn, socialize, and thrive. That’s why it’s crucial for schools to take a proactive approach to addressing mental health concerns and providing support for students who need it.
Mental health plays a critical role in students’ academic performance, social development, and overall well-being. Students who struggle with mental health issues often experience challenges in school, such as difficulty concentrating, poor attendance, and lower grades. Additionally, untreated mental health conditions can have long-term impacts on a student’s future, including increased risk of dropping out of school and decreased opportunities for success.

Trauma-Informed School Systems are essential in navigating these unprecedented times.
That’s why we are committed to helping schools learn how to align their practices with trauma-informed care, which takes into account the emotional, psychological, and physical effects of trauma on students.
Trauma-informed care is an approach to mental health services that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery. This method emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for all students. Within trauma-informed care, school staff members aim to empower the students to rebuild a sense of control, safety, and trust.
According to a recent report by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, one in four children in the United States will experience a traumatic event before the age of 16. The report also states that students who have experienced trauma may struggle with anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues in school.
By helping schools learn how to provide trauma-informed care, we can create a safe and supportive environment that helps students feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences. This, in turn, can lead to better academic performance, social development, and overall well-being.
Let’s work together to make your school a place where every student feels valued, heard, and supported.
At Equity Associates, we understand the importance of helping schools provide comprehensive mental health services to students through a trauma-informed school system.
In order to achieve this objective, through our consultative services we offer, the Shape Assessment, an evidence-based tool that can help your school identify areas where you can improve your mental health services and trauma-informed care.
The Shape Assessment collects information and provides a snapshot of the multi-tiered services and supports, staffing, financing and data systems of school and district comprehensive school mental health systems. It assesses the quality of your comprehensive school mental health system at the school or district level based on seven quality domains and associated indicators and best practices. We’ve organized our comprehensive Resource Library by these seven quality domains, so you can easily find resources and strategies that will help you improve your system.
Using the Shape Assessment provides school leaders the opportunity to view the landscape of their school mental health systems This information guides Equity Associates quality improvement support efforts with our schools.
Through a partnership with our educational consulting services, we use evidence-informed tool to assess trauma responsiveness in eight domains. The Trauma Responsive Schools Implementation Assessment (TRS-IA) was co-developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) Treatment and Services Adaptation Center for Resilience, Hope, and Wellness in Schools and the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH).
Partnering with Equity Associates as your educational consultant can help your school create a more comprehensive approach to supporting students’ social-emotional needs.
